The Stockholm East area includes the two closed prisons Österåker and Täby. Here, we primarily employ correctional officers, but also healthcare staff, teachers, administrators, production leaders, and other important professional groups. Inmates at the facilities are engaged in education, treatment programs, workshop work, and assembly and packaging tasks – all aimed at creating structure, meaning, and opportunities for a better future.

Österåker Prison is currently in an exciting expansion phase with new prison places and employment facilities set to open between 2025 and 2027. There are great opportunities to grow with the organization – both in terms of the number of employees and in new, exciting roles. The prison is located outside Åkersberga – perfect for those who appreciate avoiding rush hour traffic. The easiest way to get here is by car. Täby Prison is a small facility with a family-like environment and good commuting options. Both prisons offer employee parking.

We care about a health-promoting work environment – therefore, Österåker Prison has a staff gym. There is also a popular staff restaurant where you can eat and socialize with your colleagues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you are the foundation of our security work. You work in teams with other professional groups to maintain a safe and secure environment and motivate inmates towards a life without crime. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness.

Clear routines are a natural part of your daily work. You are the one who opens the cell door in the morning and locks it in the evening. You accompany inmates to work and education, search and supervise outdoor areas and training facilities. You have daily contact with inmates to know how they are doing, and you are part of the release preparations. The work is varied, and there are many development opportunities for those who want to grow within the authority.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change. The position requires that you have good physical ability to handle situations that may arise in the work and to perform the physical tasks included in the training.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Completed upper secondary education or equivalent education combined with work experience
• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
• Good computer skills

It is an advantage if you have:

• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
• Work experience from corrections, service professions, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare
• Language skills beyond Swedish
